LPA Membership

The purpose of the organization, as stated in the By-Laws adopted on July 3, 1990, is to provide opportunities in photography pursuant to group interaction, networking, community involvement, exchanging technical and artistic ideas, and exhibiting.

Our monthly meetings form the core activity of our organization.Usually held in the Lawrence Arts Center, meetings typically include informative presentations by local artists and technical experts in all areas of photography. Topics have included Polaroid transfers, studio and non-studio flash photography and lighting, framing and mounting techniques, digital photography and photo editing, color management, large format cameras, and toning and hand coloring prints.

The LPA keeps members informed via email, a web site, and a newsletter covering of upcoming photo competitions, juried shows and exhibitions in the area, in addition to the LPA’s own activities.

The Lawrence Photo Alliance sponsors the annual Kansas/KC Camera juried competition. The competition is open to photographers residing in Kansas or the Greater Kansas City Area. The juror is selected from
well-known area photographers. Competition winners are awarded cash and other prizes.

Occasionally we have field trips to explore news areas to photograph, such as the Baker Wetlands, the Z-Bar Ranch, and the train station in Baldwin.
